Leader Board Update as of 07/25/09

// July 30th, 2009 // Announcements

This week, our fourth update, we’ve got a ton of new entrants breaching the top, and we’ve got some heavy eaters returning with a vengeance. I put out a bet in the last update and it seems to have come true. The board this week is proof that hard work and dedication seriously pay off. Stuffing one’s face has never been this GLORIOUS!

Oh, and I have an announcement. This week, we’re getting the top 25! That’s right, people. 5 more slots opened up, 5 more chances for you to get into the semi-finals.

I find that the most difficult thing to do every week is to come up with new nicknames. So guys, if you have nicknames you want, tell me so I can use those instead of the extremely uncreative ones I use. Thanks. All right, let’s get down to it.

Let’s start at the bottom of the pack. We have a three-way tie, taking up the 25th to the 23rd place. Last week, two of them stood triumphant at a very respectable 8th place and 7th. ELDEBRANDO “MATADOR” GUEVARRA and PEDRO “THE BRICK” YLAGAN bring up the very end. Accompanying them at the rear is new-comer, ROMMEL “EL LUCHADOR” LUACRA.

Another newb enters at 22nd place. He times in at 0:02:03. Let’s welcome PAOLO JONAS “EATING RAGE” PAGUIO into the mix. Now, one would think that a time like would already be inhumanly fast and is enough to ensure his safety in the standings. Yeah, maybe a couple of weeks ago, he would’ve even landed at the top spot. Seriously, this is shaping up to be an exciting hot dog eating contest.

We have another tie at the 21st and 20th places, clocking at 0:02:00 flat. We have a guy who fell from 6th place. At least SEAN OLIVER “DIGESTIVE FURY” NECLAT. Joining him is another fresh entry- RICHARD “ZOOM” FERRER.

I guess as we go further into the competition, we will see more ties and time tiers. At 19th and 18th place, we have the guy who was at 5th place last week, RAYMOND “EXPLODING BAZOOKA” BAGONCIA and an alumni has had been eliminated and came back to try. That is, unless I mixed up ALVIN “TOMMY GUN” THOMPSON and an Alvin Thompson Tan. Dunno if they’re the same person. They clock in at 0:01:56.

17th place is home to a new guy as EDWIN PAUL “BOTTOMLESS” CHAN make his leader board debut. He clocks in at 0:01:55.

At 16th place, we get another new entrant. There are a ton of those this week, made our veterans look like rank amateurs. Clocking in at 0:01:53, we have… wait, what?! ALFREDO “THE MAYOR!?” LIM!? Wait, wait, wait… there must be some mistake! Are you THE Alfredo Lim?

Okay, I’m composed. I’m calm. Anyway, we have the 15th spot. I’m confused. I think he was at the 13th spot last week, with a time of 0:02:17. He came back this week and slashed his time to 0:01:51. Here’s where it gets confusing is JOHN MARK MONTIER the same guy as JHON MARK “M-BOMB” MONTIEL? I don’t know. These spreadsheets I get are confusing. Anyway, if you’re either guy, come forward and correct this, please.

The first of two Samsons in this board this week. Settling for the 14th spot, we have ARGIE “STRONGMAN” SAMSON with a time of 0:01:49. I seriously hope that there was no error and that this guy is the same guy as the other Samson.

13th spot goes to a newbie. He goes by JOHN MICHAEL “BATTERING” RAM, clocking in at 0:01:48.

12th spot has a veteran. He’s been in this board since week 1. Falling from the 4th spot, with a time of 0:01:47, we have YASKER “SUPER DRAGON” YU!

Almost making it into the top 10 spots, we have last week’s 3rd placer at 0:01:46. It’s like MARVIN “THE REAL DEAL” TROPA is out of the safe zone.

Coming in for the very first time, and landing at the top 10, especially at this point of the competition is a special thing, utterly impressive. With a two second lead over the 11th spot at 0:01:44, RONALD “THE STING” MARTINEZ holds the 10th spot.

The second Samson is up next, although I do hope it’s no error and that these two guys are actually two different dudes. With 0:01:40, ARIEL “DOC” SAMSON, is at part of a tie. You get plus points if you got the reference. He shares the spotlight with ALVIN “DOUBLE A” ALUNDAY. They have 9th and 8th spots.

7th spot is owned by a man who has been to the boards and was eventually removed. He’s back with a vengeance. MICHAEL “JAWS” SAMONTE smashes back with a time of 0:01:37. Crazy stuff, man.

What impressed me are the new guys coming in at the top 5 spots, taking spots away from our veterands. Coming in at 0:01:30 taking 6th and 5th spots, we have a two way tie between one of the favorites and consistent leader board member and a newb- LEOPOLDO “BLACK HOLE” QUINTO, JR. and REY “GUN” MAHILUM!

Blazing through the ranks, our 4th placer came out of nowhere. AGAPITO “TEENAGE MUTANT” PAG-ONG clocks in at 0:01:25.

Annihilating the competition, we have another top-notcher newb at 3rd place! JAMES “SUPER SPY” PIERCE writes his name in hot dog eating history with a time of 0:01:19.

The top two guys have such a rich history here at the boards, and I’m sure these guys are definite favorites for winning the whole thing. At number 2, last week’s number 1, with a time of 0:01:16, JOHN PAUL “EL MACHO” ARAGONCILLO!

Like I said, if I was a betting man, I’d put money on this guy getting the top spot at least once. And lo and behold, here he is. At the top of the mountain, KYLE “THE BEAST” DE GUZMAN takes the number 1 position this week with a time of 0:01:07! Good job, bro! Congratulations!

    I do not know you personally, but dude, if you’re reading this, I offer you my congratulations.

    You make the McKinley Hill people proud! Best of luck, buddy.

  5. Kyle says:

    Whooooo HAAAA!!! I better watch out though everyone else is heating up pretty good. Time to train harder RAWR! I have this feeling El Macho might get back on me time to go D. Good stuff gentlemen you guys are timing in great. I need to worry about stomach space and rhythym now =( 5 hot dogs sounds easy but what happens with 30 and 60 hotdogs in front of us anyone could win.

  6. Kyle says:

    Oh yeah Bim I noticed your a marvel enthusiast. Thats qool man I’m a comic fanatic as well. I noticed with the Doc Samson nickname and some of your marvel action figures on your desktop. Actually my nickname refers to Hank McCoy aka The Beast haha kind of play on words thing he was one of my top favorite X-men characters. Yeah anyways enough sounding like a N.E.R.D for me haha. Rock on with Big Bite LOL

  7. Bim says:

    @The Tiger, Ryan

    Just keep practicing. Focus on getting into the semi finals first. After that, it’s anyone’s game.

    @Kyle

    I APPROVE! Hank McCoy fan, yeah? Awesome stuff! The geeks are taking over the world, man. Congratulations on getting the top spot!

  8. Armi says:

    saw a You Tube video of Yamazaki -san who used to be in the Top 20, Bim. His friends were telling him, “Gambare! Gambare!” (or work hard! You can do it!).
    I say to him, “mo ichido onegaishimasu ” or one more time!
    Also for Ryan, try again, man!

  9. Kyle says:

    Thanks everybody =)! Although this isn’t over yet I got competition on the charts to worry about. Everyone is getting good. I wonder who’ll beat the 1 minute mark first hmmm…

    @Tiger: I think you should worry about stomach space and rhythym soon because you won’t be eating 5 hotdogs during semi and finals. Keep practicing man. Meat pretty much gives all the best tips and details for this competition. I’ve basically been doing what the information on this site gives. Good luck to you man.

    @Apple: Thanks for the appreciation! But umm im not from Mckinely Hill I represent the Dagupan branch in Pangasinan

    @Meat: Geek it out brother! Whoo Haa! Thanks for the appreciation! I have to train harder though lots of competition coming in

  10. francis says:

    heheheh :D iam planning to boost all my the result of my training this week from aug 1- 7

    but i guess to able to have 1min and 07 sec i will combine 2 techniques double japanesing while doing double dunk on the buns

    wait guys di ba pwede i dunk ng matagal yung buns? may penalty ba? sa eliminations? just wondering

  11. Ryan says:

    @ kyle:stomach space is not a problem at all since everyday of my life is an eating practice because I eat a lot since I was born. haha! I can barely feel those 5 hotdogs after eating them. Well, my stomach is not as wide as joey chestnut’s though. The problem is I’m too slow. Is there such thing as widening the esophagus? haha!

    @francis: Have you tried joining the elimination round even once? pwedeng pwede magtagal kahit ibabad mo pa yung buns magdamag! sobrang lambot nun.

  12. TomG says:

    1:07 truly great; little question someone will do close to 40 in 10 minutes

  13. Ryan says:

    I timed at 1:59 today but I have this feeling that it is not fast enough. errr!

  14. updates!
    it seems that 30 persons will fight for the semis…the store manager showed to me that 30 persons where considered in the list…with 2:00 as the 30th placer…i placed 12th or 13th(ohh unlucky number) with a time of 1:39…cheers!

  15. Ryan says:

    are you sure they’re getting 30 participants now?
