As you all know, typhoon Ondoy stopped the last finals and it really tested the Filipino resilience. That said, I’m proud of you guys for pulling together and helping each other out. The Filipino spirit really does shine brightest when times are darkest. Now, it’s time to see whose eating fighting spirit is the strongest!
FINALLY! The day you have all been training and waiting for has arrived!
Save the date, guys- NOVEMBER 14, 2009, at 5 PM, in SM Mall of Asia! Time to see whose gastronomic prowess reigns SUPREME!
Because of the recent devastation that hit us, which affected large areas of Luzon, 7-11 is now accepting donations for Ondoy victims.
From CCTV.com
Simply bring relief goods to 7-11 stores. I’m not entirely sure if all of them accept goods, but it’s a fairly good chance that they do. Here’s a list of things that the Ondoy victims might need:
-Bottled water
-Ready-to-eat meals. Please avoid bringing meals in styro containers as there’s already too much garbage in relocation areas, and that will ultimately lead to another disaster such as this one.
-Wound dressing. Some kids have open wounds and they need to be wrapped up
-Anti-fungal/Anti-bacterial cream. Flood water is dirty, and they needs items such as these to avoid infection
-Sanitary napkins
-Blankets
-Dry clothes
-Maybe can openers
-Wet and dry tissue paper
-Banig, if you can spare one
-Underwear (disposable and reusable)
-Slippers
-Towels
Due to heavy rains and really crappy weather (our house is experiencing terrible property damage), today’s Big Bite Match is POSTPONED! We will keep you posted on the new schedule. We apologize for this delay and we will keep you guys informed on the coming details. Thanks for still supporting us!
Sorry for the delay, folks. But hey, here it is, the moment you’ve been waiting for. I present to you your 7-11 Eating Machines Philippines Big Bite Hot Dog Eating Contest Finalists!
The final list, surprisingly, is composed of mostly people new to the leader boards. Although it’s refreshing to see new blood in the list, I’m glad to see some of the leader board veterans stay strong and qualify for the semi finals.
We are extremely sorry to announce that the semi finals, which was set for tomorrow, August 22, 2009 has been postponed.
The competition is still going to push through, but at a much later date, which is still being determined. We apologize to the inconvenience. We will keep you all posted on the developments of the competition as newer details arise. I promise to not let you guys down.
Maybe we could think of it this way, we have more time to practice!
Last week, there was some confusion as to whether there were 24 or 25 leader board members due to a tie for the last spot. We were able to clear that up, and this week, instead of our usual 25 top eaters on the board, we’re having 26 because of another tie at the final slot.
I’m amazed at how frequently the landscape of the leader board changes weekly; however, the leader, Kyle “The Beast” De Guzman has held the spot for two weeks in a row. Will he still be the top dog this time around or has he been thrown off his comfortable chair at the top?
As we await the latest updates to our contest, I thought it would be a good time to show you yet another video. Last week, I posted part 1 of the vids, which featured RacingQueen, Inc. The researchers eventually found another video from RacingQueen, Inc. These people seem to really love what they do.
The video was uploaded by a guy who calls himself admiralangelo.
I can’t really tell who or what RacingQueen, Inc. does but I imagine it would be quite different from DancingQueen, Inc. As far as I can tell, it’s a group of people who race each other at everything. If they have a video of them racing down a hill, running backwards, that’d be cool.
The video is pretty quiet, except for the occasional laughter and encouragement. It’s got some pretty standard stuff and some solid techniques you might pick up on. The guy in a faded red (okay, it’s pink) shirt finished his set of dogs faster than his Filipino companions. Everyone was kinda behind him throughout the whole thing. One even went so far as to think it would be quite encouraging to shout out “Wow! That was fast!”
Most Hilarious Moment: At the very end of the video, the guy in the blue jacket does a double take after seeing Mr. Pink Shirt has devoured his dogs.
With only a few days left in the elimination rounds, the competition is really blazing, and I do mean BLAZING. The slowest time for this week is only at 0:01:54. That kind of time would have landed on first place the first couple weeks.
Remember, the eliminations last only until August 15, 2009. All of our competitors have been training and practicing and the race for half a million bucks is becoming more and more serious as the weak are eliminated from the board. It seems that skill and technique play the biggest part in this, although I guess having a huge appetite and a larger-than-average mouth will help, as well.
This week, I don’t think we have a 25th entrant. The list I received had a highlight on only 24 contestants. I think this is because number 25 and 26 tied, and instead of just picking one of them, which would seem unfair to the other one, the list only comprised of 24 entrants. The last two spots shared the 26th spot, as well, anyway.
