Hot Dog Eating Technique: Japanese Style

// July 12th, 2009 // 2 Comments » // Fun Stuff

I’ve been searching around the internet for hot dog eating techniques and I think I may have found something that might help those who want to join the contest. It is apparently known as the Japanese hot dog eating style, maybe because the Japanese originated it, like most things in this world. I am really trying to not sound accidentally racist here.

As we know, right now the top two hot dog eating champions are Joey Chestnut and Kobayashi. These guys are legendary, yeah, but Kobayashi isn’t the only Japanese professional eater. One of whom is Gyaru Sone, a cute 95 pound girl. Read more  about her here. These guys are definitely much smaller than their Western counterparts, but they still dominate? Of course, training, physical conditioning and discipline all help, but read on to learn a technique they utilize. Not only does it make scientific sense, it’s practically proven in its effectiveness.

7-Eleven Big Bite Match Event

// July 6th, 2009 // 1 Comment » // Announcements, Fun Stuff, Videos

Last July 4, 2009, at the Rockwell Tent, 7-Eleven officially launched the Big Bite Match. Even though I was late for the event, I still managed to have a great time. The food was free, the music was good, the show was awesome, Goose was incredible, and oh, the food was free. Man, the food was good, too. I missed quite a bit, but I was told there was some speed talking or something, and some guy in a hotdog costume, making jokes packed with hot-dog-esque innuendo. Now, that’s something every man needs to see at least once in his life.

There were a lot of people at the event, mostly supporters and media, but because the space was pretty big, it didn’t feel too stuffy, and I wasn’t exchanging bodily fluids with strangers, thought that might actually be fun. (more…)

Hot Dog History

// June 22nd, 2009 // 4 Comments » // Fun Stuff

While we prepare ourselves for the gorge fest that we will thrust ourselves into on the 26th, I thought it would be nice to look back and see how our favorite meat product, the hot dog, came into existence.

Using my awesome google research skills, I have tracked down what seems to be the origin of the hot dog that we all enjoy today. Now, most of my sources (read: wikipedia) says that there is absolutely no way one can be sure of the exact origin of the hot dog because it is simply too awesome and awesomeness like that has no beginning and will definitely have no end.

Some of you might think that some time in the past, maybe around the 1930s, some guys got together and they found themselves faced with a conundrum.

Man 1: “What should we do with this huge sack of meat and this partially edible sack of intestine lining?”

Man 2: “Ooh, I know! Maybe we can stuff everything inside the other thing and see what happens from there?”

Man 1: “You’re an idiot. It won’t work.”

Man 2: “Sure it will. Here, give me that.” *stuffs meat into intestines* See?

Man 1: “OMG! You’re right! LOL! This roxxorz!”

Man 2: “But wait, that’s not all!” *whips out a piece of bread*

The first meeting to create the most beloved meat product.

Dicky Fellow VS Katarina Haligi!

// June 16th, 2009 // 1 Comment » // Announcements

Is there a sight more majestic than a girl eating a hotdog? Yeah- two girls, eating multiple hotdogs, in a heated battle royale!

It is my pleasure to give you the video documentation of this epic rivalry, the sultry Katarina Haligi going up against a very determined Dicky Fellow. Huge hotdogs will be swallowed whole! Sauce will splatter everywhere! Little bits of slightly digested bread will fly across the room at extreme velocities! All of this while these two vixens also try to have an eating contest. To me, this is just further proof that there is a divine being out there who loves me.

Without further ado, I now present to you Dicky Fellow VS. Katarina Haligi!

Settle your beef with meat! While humiliating your friends, and taking every little shred of dignity away from them, you could even win some money!

Will you be the next Duke of Degustation?

// June 9th, 2009 // No Comments » // Announcements

bbtlogofa-small

The time has come ladies and gentlemen.

In the same way that we have created a national pastime for eating, the supposition to turn The Act of Degustation into a competitive sport makes perfect sense. Today, we celebrate the launch of the country’s first Hotdog Eating Competition, a revelry of stuffing insane amounts of 7-Eleven hotdogs in the shortest span of time. The contest rules are clear and “D” Day (of course, “D” stands for Degustation) will commence on the 26th of June 2009.
